Ora sono vecchia e molti cibi mi disturbano, ma allora potevo mangiare di tutto e lo facevo con giusto. In albergo affinai il palato e presto seppi distinguere una frittata da un’omelette francese, un budino da una mousse au chocolat.

Quando ebbi messo da parte un gruzzolo sufficiente, aprii un catering: lavoravo giorno e notte, a volte mi aiutava mia sorella, le soddisfazioni non mancavano.

Ebbi un discreto numero di amori. Grazie al mio lavoro conoscevo molte persone. Una volta fui invitata a un ballo da un affascinante diplomatico dell’ambasciata francese per il quale avevo organizzato un banchetto. Mi assediava da settimane, ero lusingata. Quella sera non stavo nella pelle! Un’amica mi prestò un abito di quelli attillati che lasciano le spalle scoperte. Gioielli non ne avevo, ma mi sentivo una dea in seta rossa. Camerieri in livrea servirono canapè e frittelle salate di zucchine. Ballammo tutta la sera; il mio cavaliere era galante e mi copriva di attenzioni, senonché verso fine serata lo vidi sbiancare mentre gli veniva incontro una bella donna che lo abbracciò con confidenza: era la moglie, tornata dalle vacanze in anticipo!

Ci rimasi male, ma mi servì di lezione.

Finii per sposare un cuoco. Giovanni era alto e gioviale, mi faceva ridere e sapeva ballare. Ci trovavamo insieme agli altri della brigata di cucina la domenica mattina, organizzavamo pic-nic degni della Regina Elisabetta, ognuno portava qualcosa, poi si condivideva sull’erba, come in un quadro di Toulouse-Lautrec. Alla sera Giovanni ed io andavamo in una sala da ballo e danzavamo fino a cascare dal sonno.

Ogni volta che mi portava fuori, Giovanni mi sorprendeva con un dolcetto preparato apposta per me. Continuò a farlo anche da sposati, in occasione di ogni evento importante: il compleanno, la nascita della nostra prima figlia, l’atterraggio della Missione Apollo sulla Luna, che chissà poi se ci andarono davvero.

Da quando mio marito non c’è più, qualche volta gli parlo e so che mi ascolta. Se sono in difficoltà, talvolta riesce anche a mandarmi un aiuto. Recentemente cercavo un documento, era il giorno del compleanno di Giovanni, improvvisamente sento un rumore, mi volto, vedo un libro caduto dalla libreria, aperto. Lo raccolgo: era aperto al Vangelo secondo Giovanni, all’episodio della guarigione del cieco nato. Lo poso sul tavolo, in quel momento il mio sguardo si posa sul documento che cercavo da tre giorni, appoggiato sulla credenza, che ho improvvisamente “visto”, come se prima fossi stata cieca. Ho ringraziato Giovanni e ho telefonato a mia figlia.

Da neonata paffutella a bimba magra, da adolescente tondetta ad adulta obesa.

Sono stata capace di adeguare il mio peso a quello che mi piace vedere allo specchio,

ma questo non è un peso che gli altri giudicano buono. Pazienza!

Certo, durante l’adolescenza è stato difficile confrontarsi con amiche, parenti e

conoscenti ma con attenzione ho capito che ogni forma del corpo è bella,

specialmente se cresciamo anche dentro.

Oggi si cerca di far capire che non si dovrebbero fare commenti sul peso , come

non si farebbero ad un calvo o ad una persona magrissima…

Ricordo nel mio passato quanti si sono sentiti in obbligo di elargire consigli non

utili e non richiesti;  ci sono porte della nostra vita che vogliamo aprire solo agli amici intimi,

ai nostri amori ea pochi altri.
